This is a full biography, with carefully discussed evidence for what actually happened. At times this may make it read less like a story than an article from a history book, but if you want to understand the truth about her life and separate out the legend it is excellent. This is exactly what I wanted.
If you want just a nice children's story, look elsewhere.

This is the companion book to the Chief Ouray story.
However, this book stands alone as a great read too.
If you're interested in life in the Colorado wild west from 1850 to 1900, you'll love this book.
Covers a lot of things I hadn't read elsewhere.
Also made me ill thinking about how wrong she was treated by "my ancestors".
I rode to Dragon, UT on my dirt bike after reading this, just to see for myself what the land was like that was "given" to the Indians after they were removed from the Grand Valley.
Wow... shockingly desolate!
This book will get you thinking that's for sure, as well as get you smiling at times.
Silver Globol
This was truly a wonderfully written book, I thoroughly enjoyed it...I plan on reading it again in the near future.
Golden freddi
Well written, necessary in any collection of Ute history.

Being from the dry place called "The Uintah Basin", I enjoyed reading about Chipeta. I read a lot of sports books and I thought the Chipeta book might be boring. It was the best book I've read this year. It was better than Phil Jackson and Paul Hourning's books. It was super.

It is obvious that the co-authors have done their homework. The information is thorough and the style highly readable. The end notes and bibliography are also helpful.
