Clear Skin: Heal Your Skin and End the Breakouts- Once and for All by Dan Kern

Dan Kern's clear skin method treatment will lead to staining of pillowcases and apparel (especially if one has body acne), but some see that as a small price to pay for a clearer or completely clear complexion. Also as a heads up, this method is not intended for the "severe" acne cases. Desperately, I tried Dan Kern's Regimen. It DID completely clear my skin for about 6 weeks and worked better than any other external treatment I have ever tried. Unfortunately, I gradually started developing pimples/breakouts again and, no matter how much of the BP I applied to my skin, the pimples would NOT go away. In fact, the breakouts were so much more stubborn than they were BEFORE I started the treatment that NOTHING would make them go away.

The book includes: € A simple, step-by-step morning and evening regimen € Acne facts and myths € The biological basis of breakouts € Simple behavior changes that can make a big difference € Tips on shaving, cosmetics, and your skin € Before-and-after photos.

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about our skin and purging or breaking out, so I hope to put those to rest today once and for all, and help you decipher whether or not your skin is actually purging, or if it just plain ol' doesn't like the product you're using. First, purging is not a myth. Your skin can and does purge. But, not how you might think. A lot of companies that boast being "all-natural" or "chemical-free" also like to claim that their products cause purging due to some kind of a skin "detox". This is false, plain and simple. But after this initial breakout or "purge", things should slowly but consistently improve, not only improve from the point of purging, but it should also improve your skin compared to what it was before you started the product. Some ingredients and products that can cause "purging": AHAs & BHAs (glycolic acid, malic acid, salicylic acid).

Clear Skin: Heal Your Skin and End the Breakouts- Once and for All. Publisher: Penguin Publishing Group.

Dan Kern’s acne started at age 11. In his case, it just never stopped. By college, Kern had tried. salicylic acid; Retin-A; clindamycin, a topical antibiotic; and sulfur to reduce the hundreds of pimples on his face. All yielded minor results. The latter two actually made it worse. My skin plummeted to levels I had never seen, says Kern, 34, of San Francisco. In 2004, backed by a St. Louis dermatologist, he wrote Clear Skin: Heal Your Skin and End the Breakouts, Once and for All. Kim Tyda had no luck with dermatologists, either. Breakouts started last year, when she moved from Sacramento to Alameda. A dermatologist prescribed Differin. The ointment increased her acne. I broke out in places I’d never had pimples before, says Tyda, 37. I’d wake up one day and be clear and the next, when I had to give a presentation, I was totally broken out on my chin.

This "method" is similar to ProActiv's except a non-ProActiv brand of cleanser and benzoyl peroxide are used. Considerably more BP is applied with this method as well. Still this method will end up costing much less than ProActiv. Also, judging by the testimonials on here, in the actual book, and on acne.org, this method is rather successful for the long term.

I am most certainly NOT an advocate for the ProActiv system, which was not very effective for my moderate acne by the way.
Please understand- I am not trying to rain on the parade, but I am just listing some possibly negative points that were not mentioned in other reviews. I do wish someone had written about them, before I purchased this book.

I didn't read the whole book. I just went to web site acne.org and followed the program. Acne is now gone. I suffered from Acne for over 20 years and tried many treatment programs from Accutane, Retin-A, Microdermabrasion and a few others. Dan Kern's treatment program was the first treatment program that actually work for me in the long run.

The cheapest and fastest way I know how to check out the program is to order 1 tube of the 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide (from Dan's Web Site) and try it for 1 week following Dan's instructions. Yes, if you goto the web site, Dan also wants you to get a Cleanser and a Moisturizer. All products are needed but I believe the key product is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel from his web site Acne.org.

I strongly believe if you have Ance, using the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel with Dan's instruction, you will have a 95% chance of seeing improvement in less than a week.

This is my first review ever on amazon, maybe it'll be helpful for fellow acne strugglers. I just want to chime in that THIS METHOD WORKS.
I also believe that there is more than enough FREE INFORMATION on Daniel Kern's homepage. I have been USING THIS METHOD FOR 6 YEARS now and my skin looks way better than before. You do not have to purchase Daniel's acne products for it to work, I personally try to find the cheapest versions available in my country.

I am 28 now and have had acne since I was 15, and even by using various treatments (including doctor's prescriptions and antibiotics) it got progressively worse. Even prior to Daniel's method, I used benzoyl peroxide, but as doctors usually prescribe it - too harsh a version (10%) and too little and only during the night, which sometimes somewhat kept it in check but it was still painful and not a pretty sight, the only other thing that helped was going on the pill which had its own severe side effects - when I went off it 7 years ago my acne returned ferociously - since I didn't want to go on accutane, Kern's method was my saviour.

Not gonna lie, it is a COMMITMENT - but it's worth it. TIP: you don't have to spend half an hour in the bathroom waiting for everything to dry, use the in-between time for things you would do anyways and the method only takes 5 min! So I wash my face and brush my teeth while letting it dry. Then I apply the bp, wash my hands and get dressed. The BP will have dried by then, so I go on to apply moisturizer mixed with jojoba oil and make breakfast. Then my face will be ready for applying a bit of mineral foundation if I go out. Voila!

Since I have hippy dippy tendencies for going "natural" and since my skin has gotten way better I have tried to wean myself off the treatment a few times, but it always came back and each time it took me quite some time to get my skin back on track. However, by now I have been able to cut down on the amount of bp I have to use for maintaining clear skin.

I had 2 huge pimples on the side of my face that took 6 MONTHS to dissipate! The problem with Dan's program is the same problem with all the other treatments...it may help for a week, a month, a year, whatever...but the acne is going to eventually return (unless you get to the root of the problem, which is INTERNAL). I also believe the treatment lotion damaged my skin and pigmentation...it is (finally) returning to normal, but has taken forever to do so. And I think the worst part of it all is that, when I stopped using the treatment, the breakouts not only returned, but with a vengeance. I sincerely hope that the treatment works better for you, but I can not recommend this method whatsoever.
