Santillo calls poke "an excellent herb, it should be used with caution. Anecdotal information is used liberally throughout the book. The only false tenet missing from Santillo's book is the assertion that God created herbs for the specific purpose of curing disease. I might be willing to overlook Santillo's lapses in syntax - "Potent herbs can produce toxic effects in large amounts," (p. 46) - or spelling - "Principle Therapy," (p. 296). Santillo's biographical sketch lists a . degree from Edinboro State Teacher's College and four other "degrees": Doctor of Naturopathy, Health Practitioner, Iridology Certificate of Merit, and Master Herbalist. The sketch also describes his study of oriental medicine, myopractic therapy, medical botany, and concept therapy.

The herbs discussed are not hard to find. Readers interested in herbology and traditional homeopathy will find this an invaluable resource. I have seen many books on using herbs for health and medical reasons. This is by far one of the best

Humbart Santillo (Author). This is a great intro book into the complex world of enzymes and how they interact with our entire system. I learned that obesity, diabetes, psoriasis, and many other ailments can be pre-empted-or at least postponed a long time-by a healthy supply and balance of enzymes. In some cases, a partial or full reversal is possible. In the same vein, enzyme balance aids digestion in such a way that controlling sugar is a natural side-effect. However, cooked/canned foods and aging combine to drastically deplete our enzyme reserves. Canned foods are devoid of enzymes and the more heat we apply to raw.

Not only does it include every conceivable herbal supplement one could need to look up, but it provides multiple indexes, including an index of diseases . I have managed a book store and currently work in one of the largest public libraries in the south. This is by far one of the best. For the last ten years I have recomended this book both personally and profesionally. It is really not for the beginner, but if you are familiar with herbs, this is a book for your collection.

This book is great! I taught me so much information about the importance of health and it went very in depth about the cause (and treatment) for dis-ease. If one is into herbs or is trying to get into herbs, I highly recommend this book. It explains the properties of each herb, what its used for, how to use it/ prepare it, the dosage, etc. My FAVORITE part of the book (which is hard because there are so many) is the section called "Comprehensive Therapies For Common Ailments". This explains the therapies for over 130 diseases (such as asthma, blood pressure, dandruff, lactation, acne, kidney stones, alcoholism, age spots, athletes foot, bed wetting, herpes, breast tumors, burns, chicken pox, allergies, constipation, congestion, nightmares, obesity, rumors/ cancer, poison ivy... I mean the list goes on and on)! Sorry for the long list, I just wanted everyone to get an image of how thorough this book is. Lol For explample, the book explains that Allergies need blood cleansing and tonification of the stomach. The treatment tells you how to incorporate enemas, what foods to eat and avoid, which foods to fast on and for how long, which supplements to take, exactly which herbs to use and how to use them, and the hydrotherapy treatment recommended! It's great! The majority of the book focuses on herbs, but has sections dedicated on how to incorporate diet and cleansing, enemas, hydrotherapy, and homeopathy into your life for health and to eliminating disease. I absolutely LOVEEE this book and it will never leave my side!

I have no true starting point for this book. It's the best ever for teaching you to heal common ailments. It gives you three recipes for making the herb medicines. It defines what how when much of an herb to make tincture and slaves and rubs for different ailments. Get it while you can. I have many other books to look for but TRULY this is my go to book.

I bought this book in the early 90's when I'd first gotten interested in natural healing. It was my main reference book from that point on even though I already had dozens in my library. I moved in 2005 and it, along with many others, got ruined....I was heartbroken but too busy to replace it at the time. As time went by I would randomly search Amazon for it but could not remember the name or the author..only remembered that it was Spanish-sounding. One night I had a dream that I found it again and, my determination renewed, crawled through all the listings on Amazon until I found it again. I'm SO happy to have it back!! I have since bought dozens more before finding this again but none are as complete as this and it's resumed it's place on the shelf as my most referenced book. If you only had one book in your herbal library, this should be it. It is comprehensive and well laid out detailing the most used herbs, how to best prepare them, what their strongest properties are, how to manage an illness, remedies for common illnesses etc... The only thing missing is pictures of the herbs or how to grow and harvest them yourself...but I guess that'd be a whole 'nother book. If I were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 books...this would be one of them.
