Authors, Riley, Sturges and Morris, feel that a proper free-body diagram is very important in allmechanics courses. Whenever an equation of equilibrium is written. At the bookstore on campus, I bought this book for about 120$. The book came in really nice condition, basically brand-new and took about 2 weeks to actually arrive at my doorstep. That's a little longer then I would have hoped, but I was still able to sell my bookstore statics book back to the college for a full refund so no real problem.

The traditional introduction to mechanics consists of acourse in statics, followed by a course in mechanics of materials. The principles ofstatics are used to determine the forces that act on or in a structure, assuming that thestructure is perfectly rigid and does not deform. These forces, along with the theorydeveloped in mechanics of materials, are used to determine how the material deformsor reacts. This book approaches the teaching of mechanics using the just-in-time approach. Assoon as the student has studied equilibrium of concurrent force systems, he/she is readyto calculate stretching.
