Richard Knötel (1857 – 1914) was a German artist and a pioneer in the study of military uniforms. Knötel's father was an art teacher and gave him lessons in drawing and painting from an early age. In this time, Knötel developed an interest in military fashion and history. This book was translated by Robert G. Ball and updated to 1937.
