Teaching phonics and rhyming to a child develops their phonological awareness skills – which play an important part of becoming a good reader. Phonological awareness refers to an individual’s awareness of the phonological structure, or sound structure, of words. Phonological awareness is an important and reliable predictor of later reading ability. If you’re wondering how to define ‘rhyme’ to your child, you could explain that rhyming words have the same sound at the end. As a young child, they may not be able to repeat the definition if asked, but they will certainly be able to demonstrate rhyme once they have been immersed in rhyming games and activities! I purchased this to add to my homeschool for my toddlers (Ages one and two). They love reading books, so I figured this would be a great way to introduce songs. I think it would probably be better for a 4-5 year old. My kids like to grab. They like seeing more photos. So one of those sing-along books would have probably be a better buy for our age group.

My kids love music and singing... but this didn't seem to hold their interest. Even on songs they they really enjoy. The pages are spiral bound and come off easily. So again, older kids would probably do better with this. I keep mine away from my kids and the few times they've pulled it out while my back was turned, a few pages were partially removed.

Cute book. Nice way to present rhymes. Maybe in a few years for us!

I teach 4s & 5s and this flip chart is a great way to introduce rhyming. The pictures and print are large enough for everyone to see and each rhyme comes with a corresponding activity. Great resource for teachers. who want to teach rhyming to young children.

Great resource for my pre-k classroom. My students love the large format flip charts in general and also love reciting and acting out nursery rhymes, so this will be a very useful resource. The graphics are cute and the flip chart contains 20 of the most popular nursery rhymes.

Exactly as discribed. Perfect for my preschool music program. And it’s laminated so it stays very clean.

I purchased this flip chart for use with my class of two-year-olds during Circle Time. The drawings are engaging and clear, with the key action of each rhyme and the facial expressions of the characters captured nicely. While my class does not yet read the text, exposure to print is still important and this chart provides that as well. For a Pre-K or Kinder classroom, this chart would support a group reading, word-finding exercise, or letter identification. There are suggested activities on each page, as well.

I assumed it came with a CD like the other flip charts I've bought from Scholastic, so I was disappointed. Next time I'll read the description more carefully!

It's very cute but it's very poor quality first day using it I ripped the page out trying to gently turn it over. The graphics are really cute and it's very well printed. Just wish the bounding on it was better.
Every rhyme you can think of except Mulberry Bush.
