From the nationally bestselling author of Jane Brody's Nutrition Book comes "the ultimate, reabable, understandable, practical, and useful book on how to live sensibly and well. a primer on the new nutrition and weight control" (Craig Claiborne). Contains over 350 recipes. Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 14 years ago. I've been using this cookbook for almost 20 years. Over that period of time the current, latest nutritional advice continues to change and contradict that which came before. But I still love these recipes and I'm still alive and not fat. These recipes are tasty and easy to prepare. Jane's Turkey Carcass Soup is the best standard soup stock recipe I have ever found.

Jane Brody's previous books include the best-selling Jane Brody's Nutrition Book, Jane Brody's Good Food Book, and Jane Brody's Good Food Gourmet. The book itself is divided into a section on healthy ingredients and then recipes using these, so it's a good reference book as well. In 25 years, I only found a few "duds" so I recommend it highly for people looking to eat healthy (there are also a lot of vegetarian recipes in it as well).

The subtitle is "Living the High-Carbohydrate Way" which is out of fashion at the moment. This book came out in 1985. The subtitle would probably give some people pause: Living the High-Carbohydrate Way. It doesn't bother me, since I never really got into the low/no carb thing. This is a great book for learning about protein complementarity. If you're looking for some excellent recipes for beans and grains, this book has them. Also good vegetable recipes as well!

This is my second copy of this book. I wore the paperback out! There are tons of healthy and delicious recipes here, in addition to very valuable information on what to do with those grains and beans you're unfamiliar with. A valuable resource!

My sister-in-law gave me the paperback version of this cookbook when it came out in the 80s and it became my go-to source for new recipes. Unfortunately, it got rather worn (binder broken, covers torn, stains everywhere) so I was happy to find an inexpensive used hardback version in really good shape.

Global Progression
A friend who had lost and maintained her weight loss with this book recommended it to me after the birth of my daughter, when I couldn't lose the considerable weight I had gained. I started cooking exclusively out of this book (a different recipe every night) and the weight melted off! This is quite a feat, as my first child was born when I was 41. I DID have to buy a food processor, though, as some of my favorite recipes took forever to put together without it. WITH it, a snap. And BEST OF ALL - the recipes are delicious! My husband loves them, my children love (most of) them. Ms. Brody does not shun salt, fat or meat, but she does limit them. We continue to cook regularly out of this book - it is falling apart.

Most importantly, Jane Brody's cookbook is a fantastic cookbook. The recipes are easy to make, use common easy-to-get ingredients, are practical and DELICIOUS. The recipes are not exotic in nature, but just modified enough to keep the dishes interesting but healthy. It has also passed the test of time, surviving a list of misguided diet fads, including Atkins, South Beach, and so forth. Her nutritional guidelines and suggestions are sensible and readily manageable. Don't let the age of this book put you off its purchase. I just purchased a copy because I totally wore out my first copy.

I had the book already, but due to heavy use, got deteriorated and I'm just replacing it
Small Black
I'm on my third copy of this book, which I've owned since it was first published. I've worn out two paperback copies, and this time, I decided to buy a hardcover copy. This is not only a cookbook filled with a huge variety of healthy, nutritious recipes, but also contains a wonderful array of helpful cooking tips, nutrition information, and lots of great ideas for ways to incorporate healthy foods into your lifestyle. This book changed the way I ate forever!
Jane Brody's recipes are excellent but her advice about nutrition is priceless. This is the only cook book I own that I find myself reading because it's interesting to read, not just a source of meatloaf recipes.
