The Story of Saiunkoku, Vol. 5 by Sai Yukino,Kairi Yura

Book 1 of 9 in the Story of Saiunkoku Series. Now if VIZ or another worthy publisher would only publish a translation of Sai Yukino's original light novels, which are the source material on which both the anime and graphic novels are based, then I would be truly satisfied! But for now I'm happy to read this version of the story and to enjoy Kairi Yura's beautiful artwork on every page

I've seen the anime and now I have read the first five books of the manga. I loved the anime, the rich land in which they live, the wealth of characters, the development of Shuurei and Ryuuki...all these made the anime fantastic. Now the manga comes to U.S. shores. I highly recommend it. Each volume reveals new character traits of Ran, Koyu, Reishin, Shoka, and all of the other supporting cast. The relationship between Reishin and Minister Kou is truly humorous. Volume 4 is the best example I've seen of that, but even this one shows us just a little bit more. At the end of the novel, there is much to be learned about Shoka, barre hime, Reishin, and Kuro. It gives you a lot of detail of what is behind the characters and the love each has for Shuurei and each other, although it is shown in odd ways at times.

Are you curious about Minister Kou behind his mask, and what the story is...read volume 4. If you want to know more about Shoka and his brothers, Volume 5 is the best so far. I love the many faces of Shoka, from loving father to caring brother, to royal confidante. His character is revealed more deeply with each volume.
