Does God Believe in Atheists by John Blanchard

It is John Blanchard s major work, and was voted 'Best Christian Book' in the 2001 UK Christian Book Awards, and immediately became a best-seller, described as 'a brilliant defense of belief in God'. In the introduction, Sinclair Ferguson says that 'Does God Believe in Atheists?' may well be unique and certainly is remarkable. It is very probable that you have never read anything quite like it before. Does God Believe in Atheists? belongs to no ordinary book category because it seems to belong to so many different categories

John Blanchard wrote a 650-page book Does God Believe in Atheists? which I have not read but of which I have rather acquired a super-abridged audio cassette by the same name dated 2002 with a run-time just under one hour. In the second half of the book, writer John Blanchard examines all of the problems with these alternate views of thinking, effectively using his own Biblical, scientific and historical knowledge to debunk all other theories.

You are quite right in your criticisms of the Kindle version of this book; please accept my sincere apologies. This book was done very early in our eBook conversion process and other titles from that period have been corrected but this one has been missed

) 1 trevor f Sep 19, 2008. I stopped reading this book early on. The first chapter or two contained so many errors of fact and interpretation that I saw no point in continuing. I just skimmed into it again, as I entered the book onto this database. I found the passage on "the atomists," and the author's treatment of Epicurus. He just reasoned that they would have no interest in us, and we should not worship them. A far cry from Blanchard's idiotic quick summary of Epicurus's philosophy. ) 3 wirkman Apr 23, 2007.

This award-winning title traces the development of atheistic and agnostic thinking over the past 2,500 years and shows how thinkers like Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Neitzsche, Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, Bertrand Russell and others have shaped many people's thinking today. It also pinpoints the flaws in Darwinian evolutionism and in claims made for it by Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and others, explains why secular humanism self-destructs, reveals why here is no conflict between science and belief in God, exposes fatal errors in nine world religions and fourteen.

This heavy tome is written as a single-volume introduction to Christian apologetics. Blanchard covers virtually everything relevant to the work of defending the faith in the 21st century, from history and philosophy to science and other religions. Blanchard's writing style is readable and full of interesting historical anecdotes and relevant quotations, and his adherence to the historic Christian faith is never in question. He explains points quite lucidly, in general, and there are only a few argumentative missteps. All in all, this is an ideal introduction or I-only-want-one-book recommendation for Christian apologetics. It might have been more, except for one major problem.

The preface describes it as `probably unique,' and I couldn't agree more. The uniqueness was mainly experienced in the frustration I felt trying to use this book for what it's obviously designed to be - a reference work. This book, in its electronic form (I can hardly believe it even as I type these words) has no subject index. It has no footnotes, as all well-written nonfiction should. It has no endnotes. That's right - it has no notes of any kind, despite the author's nearly continuous quoting or referring to other writers and thinkers on nearly every page. It contains not even so much as a table of contents. Friends, this is a nearly seven-hundred page book. One cannot imagine how these oversights could have come to be, especially since the printed edition contains all of these things. I finished it asking the question, "Does Evangelical Press believe in customers?"

UPDATE!
After writing a grumpy email to Evangelical Press, I received this nice reply a few hours later:
Thank you for your web message about the book by Dr John Blanchard, 'Does God Believe in Atheists.' It may take some weeks and I am pleased to be able to offer you a free copy of the print version if you will supply your address.

An easily read and engaging book with good explanations of world religions. I especially appreciated that he is willing to clearly state the positions of people with different world views, often in their own words. The only thing I would add to is the section on cosmology. He does mention that the math for the Big Bang theory needs a 90% fudge factor (dark matter and dark energy) to work. But, how was he to know that 16 years of progress in science and space probes show mounting evidence that the universe and earth are young? Eisenstein's humble prediction of gravity waves was finally observed last year and just published in early 2016. Einstein, who knew there had to be cause.

One of the best books on apologetics that I have read! This book is The Book on the subject and is filled with convincing arguments against the atheists position. Dr. Blanchard is easy to read and understand and he writes well. I could not put
this down and with 900 pages its a book that will be a great reference tool. The arguments for God are far better and more
rational with clearer proofs than those against God. It requires faith given by God to believe in God but the atheists position
also requires great faith in chance and mindless happenings in order to come to an answer for all things. Belief in the God
who has created all things based on His Omniscience, Omnipotence, and Holiness is rational and reasonable. Belief in
creation as a natural occurrence without thought or reason is against all reality that we know. Bringing something from nothing
through natural means is against all scientific facts and experience. The bias of many against God is greater than truth or reality it seems. They choose faith in blind chance rather than an All-knowing, Almighty, Holy and Loving God. I will stick with God!

I highly recommend this book. It is a must read for anyone and especially atheists. Mr. Blanchard provides strong evidence to support design, the philosophical flaws in secular thinking, and a clear description the attributes of God. I purchased three copies of this book to share with those interested in apologetics or looking for answers to life's hard questions.

This book should be the foundation of your apologetics library. While there are other acceptable books in this catagory, Blanchard covers a very full range of topics. He successfully:

- covers a broad base of essential topics and an understandable discussion around them.

- is very readable and engaging. Even though this topic could get technical Blanchard has controlled that while giving us wonderful content.

- brings to the surface the critical points that we should understand while we talk with others.

All books like this one will have a host of "haters" so it's tough to know the good from the not so good. This is the place to start. Even though this book is over 600 pages long, it's easy to read from cover to cover (I don't find it easy to do that often). You will refer back to this one.
