Michele Perry is now a personal hero. Picture this little woman who was born with birth defects and only has one leg, on crutches, making her way in Sudan to do what God has called her to do - to be Mama to Sudanese orphans of any age AND to live out her faith daily in the face of lack. To a sick person, love looks like medicine or a miraculous healing. So the book is about Love, and how she learned that Love has a face, and in this book, it is definitely hers. This simply but elegantly told book is humbling but also encouraging, and might make you want to simply "stop for the one in front of you". For those of you who are familiar with Heidi Baker and Iris Ministries, you might want to know that Ms. Perry is affiliated with them.

Michele Perry's book, Love Has a Face, is the amazing story of her work with the orphans in Sudan amidst a war-torn populace. It is the inspiring, heart-touching, faith-building story of one of God's greats who, instead of becoming bitter over severe birth defects, has been transformed into a modern-day super-hero of the faith. It is not only about the work Michele is doing, but the work one can detect between the lines that God has done and is doing in her, and the importance of the relationship of these two works  . Dust is everywhere as are guns and other dangers.

The way Michele writes and her heartbeat of love for the forgotten and abandoned echoes what I know of Heidi and Rolland Baker, from what I've read and from my own travels to Mozambique. The stories are amazing as Jesus shows up in the everyday needs showing His love. But it's not all glory stories. There is a balance with the everyday struggles as well. Book is about Michele Perry who was born without her left hop and leg. She goes to southern Sudan with little more than faith in God's promise and opens a home for orphaned children. Feb 04, 2010 Rick rated it really liked it. Debut title from a strong young woman.

Written in 2009 before southern Sudan became the separate country of South Sudan, we meet Michele Perry starting a 'work' in Yei - the far recesses of the bush, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Dust is everywhere as are guns and other dangers. There is no running water and very little privacy. One of Michele's first introductions or should I say inductions to life in Sudan was fried termites. The children of the compound watched with interest to see if their white mama would take the challenge! She did!

Born without her left hip, leg and kidney never seemed to stop Michele from accomplishing an amazing amount. She also shares a little of her history, where her mission all started and how she ended up in Sudan in 2006.

A well-written, easy to read book that will also challenge you. No, it is not a book telling everyone that they should be in the remotest parts of the world as a missionary. It is a book that shows how the mission field is truly everywhere and the greatest gift you can give is LOVE! Michele has learned what it is to truly love people no matter what situation they are in. She has also learned how to love her Jesus asking Him what He is doing each day and then joining him! She shares the story of Benia who was brought to them as a very troubled 4 month old. As Michele asked the Lord to show her how to help Benia, she knew He was telling her to just love her. She and others gave up 3 weeks of sleep to love on this little baby until LOVE broke through and Benia had peace. Hers is not the only story in this book.

Although Michele is no longer in South Sudan due to health issues, the work that she helped to start continues. Read this book and be INSPIRED! EXCELLENT!

This is one of the most inspiring, enriching, and beautifully written books I have ever read. Michele Perry is now a personal hero. Picture this little woman who was born with birth defects and only has one leg, on crutches, making her way in Sudan to do what God has called her to do -- to be Mama to Sudanese orphans of any age AND to live out her faith daily in the face of lack. One of my favorite takeaways is a quote from an elderly Sudanese man: "We have seen religion. We have seen aid. But we have never seen love. Your God sent you here to show us love." And love them, she did/does.

For me, the presence of God was almost tangible in every paragraph. I was reminded of how kind and faithful God was to us during the 16 years we fostered infants and toddlers, giving me insight into their health and their birth families. So her love and God's provision felt familiar.

Ms. Perry admits in the book that she "lost her missionary zeal". Don't get me wrong ... she did preach, and she did teach, but her sermons were generally a simple retelling of the life of Jesus preceded by a time of worship and followed by the working of miracles as the faith of believers (especially the children!!!) was pure and uncomplicated. As her "missionary zeal faded", what she was discovering was His desire for us to love people where they are. As she said, "to a hungry child, love looks like food. To a sick person, love looks like medicine or a miraculous healing." So the book is about Love, and how she learned that Love has a face, and in this book, it is definitely hers.

This simply but elegantly told book is humbling but also encouraging, and might make you want to simply "stop for the one in front of you".

Rarely do I read a book twice. This book is an exception! It not only is a story of a brave woman and her desire to love like Jesus, and go where He sends you, but it's filled with proverbs of wisdom and stories with lessons. It's a treasure with deep jewels buried in the dirt of Sudan to be uncovered in the lives of suffering people. The people have names and each has a story. Michelle Perry weaves many of their stories into her story, the story of love. Love the masses by loving the one, she states. Face them with your face. That's the face of love that they see.

It was a great book and will touch your heart. God is doing great things thru His body using all of in different ways but I have such a heart for those that serve on the mission field, they truly give their all laying down everything down to serve.

Michele Perry placed a mirror in front of my Christian face that helped me see clearly the details that escaped my attention or needed personal application. She is the living proof that whenever our Father undertakes to accomplish His purpose on the planet, He does it through a single soul who quietly rests and rejoices in His care (Philip Keller).
