The Lukewarm Christian. Revelation 3:16 (KJV). 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. The city of Laodicea was located roughly 45 miles south of Philadelphia. Water had to be piped in using an aqueduct from springs 6 miles away. An enemy could easily cut off the water supply, leaving the city helpless. In vss 15-16 Jesus tells this church, in a manner they could easily understand, that they were neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm. North of Laodicea was Hierapolis, famous for its hot mineral springs, a popular place to bathe for health reasons (like a spa). South of Laodicea was Colossae, known for its pure, cold mineral waters which were refreshing to drink. In the middle was Laodicea.

The lukewarm Christian! Let's talk about that guy! In fact, it's that guy and that Church that we're going to focus on in the conclusion of our blog series through the 7 Letters of the book of Revelation. Today, we're on the last leg of our trip and have dropped by the Church in the city of Laodicea. A Lukewarm Christian, however? Well that dude (or girl) is just useless! First off, such a person is clearly a Christian who at some point confessed with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believed in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead, but that was as far as they went. Such a person wears the title, "Christian" but doesn't live like one. They don’t exercise any of the spiritual gifts entrusted to them and are content to simply be a seat warmer on Sunday mornings.

Being a lukewarm Christian is saying that you are in a right relationship with God but living like you don't.
