The Late, Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey

The Late, Great Planet Earth is a best-selling 1970 book by Hal Lindsey with Carole C. Carlson, and first published by Zondervan. The book was adapted by Rolf Forsberg and Robert Amram during 1976 into a film narrated by Orson Welles and released by Pacific International Enterprises.

The general idea of this book is to sketch out how the political situation of mid-1970 (when it was written) was predicted exactly in Biblical prophecy, and what we may expect for the next few decades. In the first chapter of The Late Great Planet Earth, Hal Lindsey writes of the popularity of astrology, referring to the music of Hair, whose songs I would hum about as frequently as those of Jesus Christ Superstar. It was, after all, the Age of Aquarius. The New York Times called it the no. The impact of The Late Great Planet Earth cannot be overstated. The New York Times called it the number one bestseller of the decade. This blockbuster offered Christians and non-Christians of the 1970s a wake-up call to events to come, and some already unfolding, that herald the return of Jesus Christ. The years since have confirmed Lindsey’s insights into what biblical prophecy says about the times we live in: the rebirth of Israel, the threat of war in the Middle East, an increase in natural catastrophes, the revival of Satanism and witchcraft

Inside this Book – Lately I have been rereading some of the books of my youth, but my nostalgia has not been completely assuaged by rereading. Apparently it would also have me read some of the books I missed. The Late Great Planet Earth, published in 1970, is one of these. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that I missed this bestseller. But what do I think about Lindsey’s interpretation of Biblical prophecy? What do I think of the message of Lindsay’s book? Naturally I have to disagree with a lot of it, but I found it educational nonetheless. I had heard of Born-Again Christianity, yet I knew nothing about it except that it was a Protestant movement. As such, I was not surprised that Lindsey expounded the idea of sola fide (faith alone). But what I did learn from Lindsey was what the Rapture is. In his words. Hal Lindsey's "The Great Palnet Earth" best-selling book, was turned into a sobering and frightening motion picture. In this recording; they've captured a great amount of the original content from the film

A guide to finding the future in the text of the Bible argues that many of the predictions made in the Old and New Testaments--the rebirth of Israel, unrest in the Middle East, the revival of interest in Satanism--have come true. Reprint.

I don't get the 50-years of love for this book after reading it. I like Hal Lindsey and I watch him every week. It's a highlight for me. It's possible that I was expecting too much and then I just wasn't "blown away" so it was disappointing. And that would be my problem alone. Technically, I had to re-read sentences often because they seemed to go on forever and confused me. And there was at least one point where I didn't agree with what was written vs. what the Bible says, but he's the expert and I am not. I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading this book, but I can't necessarily jump for joy about it either.

This is an awesome and classic addition to any library concerning prophecy. It's the first book I read after giving my life to the Lord in 1976.

My pastor was taking political science at UCLA, when he read this book. He was stunned by how currant events has been written thousands of years ago in scripture. It is revelant today, and oh so exciting!

nothing wrong with the book. It is just a repeat of others I've read, plus it was written a while ago and things in the middle east have changed. I didn't appreciate as much as I would have within a year or so of it's being written.

A classic on fulfilled Bible prophesy, it's only aged well. Highly recommended!

When this book was written I was a young mother with little concern about these issues. It was mentioned by my pastor recently, so I decided to read. Was amazed at how Bible prophets were so on target about events in the future.
This book is even more important today than it was 45 years ago - must read!
