The story of spirit child was recited by Aztec chanters to the accompaniment of the upright skin-drum called huehuetl and the two-tones log drum called teponaztli. Composed by the missionary Fray Bernardino de Sahagún, who had the assistance of Aztec poets, it combines stories from the Bible, medieval legends, and traditional Aztec lore. The nativity story continues to unfold.
