Grade 5-7- Sammy Carducci is a super-slick sixth grader who wears a suit to school and puts the moves on the class beauty, Becky Davidson. Through a successful use of alternating chapters, they tell the story of their romance. Sammy's chapters involve his over-zealous efforts to impress Becky. In Becky's narration, readers get her bemused view of the eccentric Sammy. The characters are not always believable, nor are some of the situations they find themselves in completely realistic. However, plausibility is not the stuff of which comedies are made, and the funny scenarios and sharp one-liners give the book instant appeal.
