We Animals is an ambitious project which documents, through photography, animals in the human environment. The project began in 1998 when I was becoming more aware of the abuses animals suffer at the hands of humans. The title is intentionally broad in subject matter, interpretation and implication. The book includes previously unseen photographs and a final chapter entitled "Notes from the Field", which is a small compilation of journal entries written while doing investigative work both at home and abroad.

In the case of zoos, both sides will argue that their side saves animals. Whether or not zoos benefit the animal community, they certainly do make money. As long as there is demand for zoos, they will continue to exist. We can start by making sure that zoo conditions are the best possible for the animals who are confined to them.
