Pirate and the Princess, The: Timelight Stone by mio-chizuru

Pirate and the Princess, The: Timelight Stone. 1933164433 (ISBN13: 9781933164434). I picked up this book on the bargain rack at the book fair and its a pretty interesting little book. It has some fun anime pictures to go along with the novel so its pretty good for elementary age readers. The story itself is a good blend of fantasy and science fiction that both girls and boys would enjoy.

Book 1 of 3 in the Pirate & The Princess Series. However, things are just getting started in English with the first book and the first chapter of the second book (included in the first book) translated into English by Tracey West.

Pirate and the Princess, The: Timelight Stone. Born in 1968 in Saitama prefecture, Mio Chizuru made her debut with The Tale of Nashisu's Tower. She has won the Children's Literature Literary Prize and the Muku Hatojuu Children's Literature Prize. Her other works include Nijuumaru and Kisetufuu. She said it was the best book she ever read. It contained a lot of action, a few pictures, emotion and was all around an excellent story.

When Captain Yuri saves her, they discover that Noelle may hold the key to Yuri’s destiny. Both Yuri and Noelle want nothing more than to return home. But neither can, until Noelle finds her brother and Yuri vanquishes the sinister forces that she herself accidentally set into motion.

Neither Yuri, captain of the pirate ship Eurastia, nor ten-year-old Princess Noelle can return to her home until Yuri defeats the sinister forces that she has accidentally set in motion and Noelle finds her kidnapped brother.

Note: Since there seems to be some confusion here, let me clarify. This was the first volume of a translation of a 10 volume Japanese children's adventure novel series: Shoujo Kaizoku Yuuri or “Pirate Girl Yuri”; unfortunately, only the first volume was ever translated and published by Seven Seas, a well known and still existing publisher of English translations of Japanese manga (comics) and light novels. Unless and until they or somebody else picks this up again, you and I are out of luck,...

unless you can read Japanese.

This really has the look and feel of being a wonderful adventure series, but all we've got in English is the first volume. Princess Noelle and the mysterious pirate captain Yuri begin searching together for a way to solve their problems together. Noelle's is the murder of her parents and the kidnapping of her baby brother, not to mention the overthrow of her country; Yuri's is the search for a way home to the future that undoes the terrible disaster that sent her to the past in the first place. However, things are just getting started in English with the first book and the first chapter of the second book (included in the first book) translated into English by Tracey West. The illustrations by Ayako Nagamori are wonderful,

but at present there is no more in English. Too bad.

My daughter loved this book, which excited me because it's usually hard to get her to read. She loved it so much that she asked me to get her the second one...this had NEVER happened before. I, of course, went online to order the second book, The Red Crystal, and couldn't find it available anywhere. After more searching, it appeared that the second and third books were never published. How very disappointed my daughter will be when I tell her. I am very sad that we finally found a series she loves, and there is no way for her to finish it. The booksellers should remove the sequels from their websites since the books will apparently never become available.

I remember I read this book many years ago, when I was much younger. I'm 18 now, and I finally found it and re-read it. Still as good as the first time I read it! It's sad that the author dropped the series.

My 10 year old daughter, who was not a great fan reading, loved this book! It was really the first "page-turner" for her. She couldn't put it down. I am trying to get the rest of the series. This book really opened the world of reading for her by convincing her that great adventures can happen in books. She loves manga and anime but never has been a huge pirate fan. I think it was the fast pace, the illustrations, and the high adventure that held her attention.
Do you like stories with pirates, adventure, treachery, and love for others? Then this may be the book for you. I like this book because the characters are so daring, so brave, and so bold. For example, when the crewmates came to help their captain in the great battle at the end. I also liked how that the princess found out that the captain was in trouble. She came to help. So get this great adventure...THE PIRATE AND THE PRINCESS!
