The Stuff of Nightmares by Malorie Blackman

Also by Malorie Blackman. It begins with a ride on a train. It’s a moment when Kyle discovers he’s not the only one in his class who knows about fear. Not the only one who has nightmares. And now, as Death stalks the carriages, it’s a moment when nightmares become real. Nightmares of wars, and a world devastated by chemical weapons. Of a body being slowly stolen, bit by bit. Of monstrous actions and monstrous creatures from old myths

The Stuff of Nightmares book. Kyle has always been afraid of things, especially dying  . This is my favourite Malorie Blackman book of the month without a shadow of a doubt. While I didn’t find it scary I did find myself getting drawn into the story and losing hours of my life by just becoming enthralled by the stories.

Best Answer: Malorie Blackman's groundbreaking Noughts & Crosses trilogy cleverly used the sci-fi-style premise of a parallel world to shine a light on society's inherent racial problems.

Malorie Blackman's groundbreaking Noughts & Crosses trilogy cleverly used the sci-fi-style premise of a parallel world to shine a light on society's inherent racial problems. What Blackman does so skilfully is to keep the storytelling taut even with the book's stop-and-start nature. This is an original and intelligent horror novel. Kyle feels drained and battered by his friends' nightmares, yet there is comfort in the knowledge that he's not the only one with buried fears he'd rather run away from. Even with Death at his shoulder, by the end he is ready to stand and fight.

This book seems bound to be extremely popular" (Nicholas Tucker Independent). Blackman reaches reluctant readers like few others" (Amanda Craig The Times). Malorie Blackman is one of the most versatile and forthright of all authors for young adults. She has brought us an ambitious panorama of broken societies and depicted motive and action in searingly effective ways. This is a remarkable book, powerful, fearful" (Dennis Hamley Carousel).
