On Top of Spaghetti" is a ballad and children's song with the best-known performance by folk singer Tom Glazer with the Do-Re-Mi Children's Chorus in 1963. The song is sung to the tune of "On Top of Old Smoky". It is the tale of a meatball that was lost when "somebody sneezed". The song discusses what happened to the meatball after it fell off of a pile of spaghetti and rolled away.

I loved this rhyme as a child so I was excited to get this for my toddler. Boy, I was very surprised when it came. The "book" is nothing but a few pieces of paper stapled together. I'm not kidding. I could have printed this myself, stapled it down the middle and folded it in half. Pretty much what you are getting here. Worth returning for $5? Probably not. Will it last very long at my house. Definitely not. At least my daughter will get a few uses out of it.

We picked up this book at the library, and it was such a hit that we bought a copy for ourselves.

It's fun to read, and it involves singing a song that I remember from childhood. If you like to "do the voices" when you read for the little ones, then you will have fun trying on your best (in my case worst) southern drawl and making your kids laugh.

My girl went through a period where she wanted this book almost every night - that's a pretty big endorsement. But the even bigger endorsement is that my son ALSO frequently picks the book now that she's grown out of it. They have wildly differing preferences, so this is pretty significant. Only "Shoe Baby" gets similar status, I think.

Age wise, it's appropriate for when the kids need a longer bedtime book than a board book or two can provide, and of course before they can read for themselves.

I love singing stories to my elementary students in music class. Over time, the students learn the tunes as well and sing with me. They enjoy visuals which is why the thought of musical "story time" is usually a success for me.

I am a creative arts educator who does everything from teaching music and movement classes to doing library story times to children of all ages. This book is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone who does read aloud time with children. And if the storyteller happens to be a "ham" as I am (I do a lot of community theatre) then all the better. Reading this book out loud is as much fun (if not more) for the reader as it is for the listeners! And let me add that Paul Brett Johnson's "Little Bunny Foo Foo" is another book you should have in your arsenal! These books are so very much fun to read, and the added plus of being able to teach the songs and make the stories interactive with the children is a nice touch!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

FALSELY ADVERTISED! I buy books for my children in class, how can I sit in front of 10 pretoddlers and read from this tiny book, expecting them to see this? VERY aggravated. I could of used all that money on a BETTER and bigger book. Rip-off.

Very tiny book and looks like it should be in a library from the checkout form in the front opening.
I wish this book was larger than printed.
My grandchildren LOVE the books by this author. The illustrations are bright, bold and fun! The stories are told in an irreverant way that makes the kids giggle. On the back page is the music and lyrics for the song that we all sing together at the end of the book.

Don't hesitate to buy this book to enrich your children's library...you'll be happy you did.
