Santa Package by Julie Sykes

Santa's alarm clock has stopped and he has overslept  . There certainly is heart in Julie’s story, especially tha Hurry, Santa!, a 1998 children’s Christmas storybook by Julie Sykes and Tim Warnes, is another treat I picked-up the last time we visited our local thrift shop. I think Tim’s drawings are marvellous and give a three-star grade at the least, in appreciation of them.

Careful, Santa! by Julie Sykes. In Sykes's tale of a windy Christmas Eve, when Santa's bag accidentally falls overboard, not even the repeated warnings of all Santa's animal friends ("Careful, Santa!") prevent an ensuing series of mishaps. Santa soon tumbles out of the sleigh, "landing on his bottom", slips on a frozen pond, and so on. But when he can't find his little mouse helper, it's Santa's turn to sound the warning and help her to safety.

Indy said: It's Christmas Eve and Santa is getting ready to deliver the presents. Santa and his companions head out to deliver gifts to the children, but the weather is bad, and the ride is bumpy. Then whoops! The bag of gifts falls from Santa's sleigh and the gifts scatter all over. Finally, Santa collects all of the presents, but now Mouse is missing.

This was a nice Christmas book for my toddler. It wasn't our favorite this season but I think that is a cute book to have in your collection of Christmas books for young children.

I have several of the santa books from Julie Sykes and Tim Warnes and they are so much fun to read. the preschoolers ask again and again to read them. Santa has lots of silly accidents. Santa's animal friends give him encouragement and freindship and sometimes get into some trouble of their own. In this book, santa wakes up late, trips and falls over his pants, can't find the reindeer in the woods, gets hit by a snowball by the reindeer, who are having a snow ball fight, crashes his sled that becomes stuck and then is rescued by a large beautiful horse on the farm while a rooster shouts out encouragement. Santa gets to open the last present, which is an alarm clock, ofcourse.

This is a fun romp with the jovial fellow. Having over-slept, will he make it in time to deliver all the presents? Brightly illustrated, heaps of fun. Young children in the throes of Santa-believe and excitement will love it. (And what would the reindeer and other animals give a Santa who didn't wake up on time? )
This story is comical and enjoyable to read. The book is easy for younger readers to read as well as older elementary school students. Santa is late for Christmas, and his reindeer help him prepare to deliver all of the gifts. At the end of the story, Santa even receives a gift from the reindeer. Reading this story will put readers in a good mood, and in the Christmas spirit. I recommend this story for anyone looking for a fun read.
