I absolutely love the illustrations in this book. Poor bear has such difficulty staying awake for Christmas so his friends keep him busy with lots of chores to prepare for that special day. But wait and see who actually makes it through the night to give his friends the best Christmas. This tale of friendship will warm your heart. There are so many great discussion starters in this story as well. What is important in maintaining a friendship? Why is bear having trouble staying awake? Why do you think his friends gave him a quilt for Christmas? What traditions do you celebrate at Christmas? I have read this book for many years to my preschoolers and it will be a must read to my someday grandchildren!

The charming illustrations feature lots of fun details -- you'll notice something new each time you read this book! This is a secular book -- it features a Christmas tree, gifts, and Santa Claus, but no mention of the religious meaning of Christmas.

Not our favorite Bear book, but cute. Same kind of writing and illustrations as always, which we do like. I could have done without the visit from Santa parts, but the majority of the book is focused on spending time together and making special gifts. It's nice to pull out in anticipation of the holiday.

Wonderful story, beautiful artwork, love the prose. Wonderful story about woodland friends helping their buddy stay up (for once) so he doesn't miss Christmas. They all contribute in their own way to make it special. Very sweet, lovely and memorable book. We read it every Christmas and all throughout the year, one of our favorites. Have given this as a gift to many and all love it. I would opt for the LARGE book, as the details in the pictures are so neat for the kiddos to notice. Two thumbs up. It's a mug of cocoa covered in whipped cream in front of a fire... in book form. :) Enjoy!

Great storyline - we love the Bear Books Series! However, missed the part that this is a small book (8"x7"). Ordered another Bear book at the same time and they're usually 11"x10." This is the second time this has happened with a kids' book, so be sure to check book size if it matters to you. I'm ordering for a library, so would have been nice if all the books in a series were the same size!

Great illustrations, very cute story, and great rhyme scheme. I hate when rhyming books don't have a good rhythm, but this one definitely does. :) I bought one for our son and one for our niece and plan on making this a Christmas tradition like "The Night Before Christmas." It also prompted me to buy two of the other Bear books!

My 3 kids and I all LOVE the Bear books. There aren't too many children's books a parent can read over and over and over again and not get tired of them, but I honestly never get tired of reading these. I love their message of friendship and being kind to one another. This one is cute where the friends help Bear stay awake so he doesn't miss Christmas.
We have “The Bear Snores On” and we enjoy it so much I just had to buy this one too to read to my daughter this winter. It’s an adorable book and not obnoxious like many other children’s books can be. I can’t wait to buy more of these Bear books!
