and Mrs. Bunny is really freaking weird, even for Polly Horvath. The fact that she is listed, on the cover, as having translated the book "from the Rabbit" should tip you off. The plot, such as it is, concerns a sensible little girl whose hippie parents have been kidnapped by some evil foxes (who also own Fox Entertainment, naturally). She enlists the help of Mr. Bunny, who have very recently taken up detective work, mostly as an excuse to wear fedoras. I haven't howled through a book this way since David Sedaris's Naked.

by Polly Horvath & illustrated by Sophie Blackall. As the hyper-responsible Madeline contemplates her parents’ plight, she’s discovered by Mr. Bunny, empty nesters (and detectives) who are only too delighted to find a nice human girl who speaks fluent Bunny, even if her bottom is gigantic. The story of Madeline’s budding relationship with the refreshingly nurturing Bunnys and their joint endeavor to find Madeline’s hopeless parents propel the farcical adventure. Playful pokes at everything from Fox News ( Foxes are titans of industry ) to the glut of orphans in children’s books are often hilarious.
