When bad things do happen, this separation may make the teen feel alone in coping with difficult and stressful issues. Focus on Family Matters provides teens with practical information about how to cope when bad things happen to them. The series deals foremost with feelings-the emotional pain associated with adversity. Grieving, fear, anger, stress, guilt, and sadness are addressed head on.
Format:Library Binding. I highly recommend this book to anyone from ages 12 and up. In a calm, clear, and engaging way, the author explains unemployment to children: how and why a parent might lose a job, how it affects the whole family, and how to cope with problems. The book is positive and quite comforting, while addressing concerns about unemployment straightforwardly. It's full of good, useful information, even for adults, and can really help children understand and cope with a difficult, yet all too common, issue.

Informative, but sometimes unevenly written, these two titles in the Focus on Family Matters series discuss important, disturbing issues. Each chapter begins with a brief scenario of a teen facing the problem, and boxed questions personalize the issues with a "What would you do?" approach.
