Dan Solon has written a whole series of financial books, all of which I think are very good and easy to understand. However, if you only read one and have a 401k or 403b this is the one to read. It opened my eyes to the costs and fees associated with what most Americans think is the best deal around, and gives you good advice and real action items that you can use to maximize your savings and retirement investing. He is direct, and has no one else’s interest at stake other than the reader.

I gifted this to all my children at Christmas and they all, to a person, now understand what their 401K plans are all about and why they're leaving
so much money on the table because of hidden fees. They didn't realize the company rarely knows anything about their own 401K plans, but
instead leaves it all up to the management company to do as they please as long as it doesn't cost the company any money. The management company gets all its money directly from the 401K plans they manage.

all of Daniel Solin's books are easy to read with strong commonsense recommendations that help make the most basic investor make better and more sophisticated decisions. This one walks through the 401k basics (including rollover recommendations); having just read this in 2013 - i believe it is starting to get a little out of date as many 401k plans continue to evolve and improve. However, all of the foundationally basic checks still apply and are still revlevant. This book will give you all the info to let you know if you have a good 401k (or 503b), and help make the right decision on how to rollover former employer plans.

Very good book to let you know what is really happening out there to your funds and money.
This gives you a birds eye view what the companies are doing to your money, Mr. Solin has been inside and tells you the place (of the worst) places to invest.
The first few reviews go into the detail and they are worth reading.
I recommend this book.

I love this guy's work. Everything is so clear and well-documented without ever suffocating on minutae the way some books on investment do. Like The Smartest Portfolio You'll Ever Own, this book also has 3-5-page chapters, each on a single point which is succinctly presented in bold-faced type at the end. With few exceptions, low-cost index funds are the way to go, advice which can also be inferred from Morningstar analyses.

This is a book that should be used as a text in class rooms in every high school in the country.
The information in this book is simple and easy to understand.
It is the basic information every young person should know in order to be financially securer at retirement.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!!

NOT, however, a get rich quick scheme. The investment advice in this book will put you to sleep, but you'll sleep better after you take the advice. The book itself, however, is fun to read with zingers here and there to keep things from bogging down into a Beige Book.

You'll be as smart as the book after reading it, and following its advice will pay for the book many, many times over.
Good book on how to invest your 401 k.
