Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. When Terry Speer was a struggling art student in the 60s, he put himself through college by selling his prints and paintings at local art shows. In 1979, after eight years as an art professor, Speer left academia to do the show circuit full time with his wife, Deborah Banyas, a fellow artist and quilt maker. Today, he and Banyas run a homebased business selling their whimsical mixed-media sculptures at art festivals and craft shows around the country, including the recent Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Miami where they rang up sales of several thousand dollars over the three-day Presidents' Day weekend. Very insightful. It was also as described physically.

This is a fantastic book made up of "bite size" chunks of information that are written in plain English and in a very "user-friendly" way. I would recommend this title to anyone considering starting, or who may even be in, the craft business. Very down to earth.

don't waste you money. good advise is you are still using a typewriter and mostly setting up at a flea market
This book is aimed at any craft business. It starts with basics such as creating a business plan and identifying your market. The book provides several approaches to pricing formulas. It covers craft shows in great details, selling wholesale, selling on the internet.

I found a tip about doing continuous market research useful. If you are doing a craft show make a note who your customers are - male/female, age, etc. Make a note of those who stopped by and those who purchased something. Knowing your customer help making better decisions about your business.

This book is all text, no sample for promotional materials or other examples.

I got some useful ideas out of this book, however I found that I got more information that I use in Marketing and Selling Your Handmade Jewelry even though my craft is not related to Jewelry.
