SoulWork: Finding the Work You Love, Loving the Work You Have by Deborah P. Bloch

This book examines the concept of careers within the context of seven themes, including chapters on: Change, Balance, Energy, Community, Calling, Harmony, Unity, Exercises. Each starts with a story and then offers career issues, reflections on various aspects of the chapter theme and a set of applications that includes self-administered questionnaires and exercises. Rather than focusing on matching occupations against personality traits as many other books do, this book advocates finding one's ideal job through one's calling. That is, drawing on strengths, life experiences, personal needs, and goals to arrive at meaningful work.

I purchased this book to use in career counseling. Everyone with whom I have shared these concepts has been inspired. The book provides great information and activities to put the concepts into action. The spiritual approach really complements career information and cognitive approaches to counseling.
It's so easy
This is a wonderful book. I purchased this book as part of a course in rehabilitation counseling. It is a wonderful text for those in the counseling field who are looking to use a spiritual approach. It offers wonderful exercises which you and your client may be able to do. The author takes the reader through 7 phases which are: Change, Balance, energy, community, calling, harmony, and unity. After a wonderful explanation and guide though the phases the author is able to pull it all together in the unity phase to show you how to integrate all these parts to make a harmonious whole. It is a great text for those seeking a different approach to understanding calling, and finding the work one loves.
I truly recommend this book.

This is a great self help book, that you can really benefit by doing the excercises. I am looking forward to doing the excercises myself to gain clearer vision of what I should be concentrating my energies on.
