Author Victoria Redstall is a petite blonde with a charming English accent, and definitely not the type of person you'd ever imagine would be hanging out with serial killers and psycho murderers. But that's exactly what she does. Here in this memoir she talks about spending time with five very sick and demented individuals. Parts of this book are pretty brutal in its descriptions of what the killers did to their victims, but it is real and honest. If you ever wanted to find out what was swimming inside the head of a demon, you should read this.

Did not like it. I felt it was poorly written, and there were inconsistencies in the book. I don't like the author's style of writing.

I would recommend this book to no one. It is horribly written and edited. I'd never heard of this woman before, understandably, but she carries on & on about herself as if the Reader should be grateful she took the time (& sadly, our time as well) to write this so called "up close and very personal" book. I hope that if this woman insists on another writing endeavor, she stick to the editorial section of local newspapers &/or if skills have improved, she might maintain a "blog". I read much more interesting & concise updates on Facebook per diem than this "book". How does such drivel even get published?!? I hate that I wasted any amount of money on this. There are much better books on the market. This half-wit does not even have the correct history for much more infamous serial killers, mass murderers, & cult leaders. Examples of her flawed historical references are Theodore "Ted" Bundy, Charles Manson, the Zodiac Killer - the latter, by the way, whoever the Zodiac Killer is/was, did NOT kill because of the victims' Zodiac sign! THE ZODIAC KILLER is dubbed as such because of the timings of the murders! There, I have stated a fact for this Ms. Redstall...perhaps she will look into researching subject matter and cite some facts in any future writing. I won't know, because I won't be reading anything else by this author.

This is a surprisingly good book. I say "surprisingly" because at first look it seems the literary equivalent of a 1960's exploitative film - the publicity and marketing for the book emphasizes how a beautiful actress/model makes friends with 5 horrible, grotesquely demented serial killers and gets them to tell her the intimate details of their lives and crimes. But the result is a serious study of how and why they became what they were.

A Forward to the book by a highly credentialed FBI profiler (seemingly the model for Kay Scarpatta's lover/partner Benton Wesley in the Patricia Cornwell novels) validates the authenticity of her work and findings.

This is an intelligent, informative study of 5 very sick people, and while some details are extremely graphic, it is not so for purposes of exploitation; and, unlike scientific studies of the genre, the writer probably uncovered facts that the subjects would not have made available to a clinical evaluator. In layman, non-scientific terms she comes up with plausible explanations for how these people got the way they are.

If the subject interests you, this is an informative read.

WOW what a great book and an amazing author..Victoria has done what so many of us could never do and being a victim of a crime myself I always wondered why did that person pick me out. To become that close and personal is very scary but we all want to know why do people kill and how do they pick who they want. I have always wondered myself always thinking they are insane..Thank you Victoria for bringing this very interesting and enlightening book to us.

Victoria Redstall takes the reader on a journey that few before her have dared to travel, going into the minds of some of Americas most sadistic men. Ms. Redstall paints these killers in a different, not often seen light. She does it by pushing aside her fears and gets to the "why" of these these horrible crimes. This book is impressive from start to finish. From the forward to a well hashed ending that leaves the reader wanting more. I understand that a second book is in the works and I am looking forward to it as well. Bravo, Victoria, take a bow.
????????????????????????

I didn't go into this book with high expectations and am glad for it. Although the excerpts from the serial killers alleged writings are an interesting read (assuming they are legit), you can tell Redstall was using the interviews and book for her own recognition. Take a lot of what she says with a grain of salt! Also, I couldn't help but agree with a previous reviewer's comment about the inaccuracies about the origination of the Zodiac Killer's name.... Makes me question the validity of everything in the book.
I can't believe this book got published! Who reviewed it prior to going to print? NOBODY! There are NUMEROUS typos, clear omissions of words that should have been in the sentence, and then the deplorable grammar and lack of proper sentence structure. The author's topic is interesting but her blatant disregard of proper English made the book extremely irritating to read. I normally donate books after I have read them but this one is going into the paper recycling bin.
