Unfortunately, in many cases, women are mistreated badly and very often the importance of women in the society is underestimated. Not long time ago, main activities in women’s lives were considered being a good cook, an abiding wife, taking care of the kids and the household. What else? Actually nothing! Women were not even allowed to vote in past century, there were very few female scientists because women’s education was never encouraged. Altogether, the role of women in society was to make sure that they were obedient wives and caring mothers. They did not have an individuality of their own. Women’s Role in Society During the early 1800's women were stuck in the Cult of Domesticity. Women had been issued roles as the moral keepers for societies as well as the nonworking house-wives for families. Also, women were considered unequal to their male companions legally and socially. Because of this women are forced to take on specific roles in society, many of those roles being; taking care of the homestead, children and being dainty and quiet. A son in all sorts of trouble finally seeks out his father for advice during a particularly bad crisis. But when he finds his father wearing an apron while washing dishes in the kitchen, the son recoils in disgust.
When young women played male roles, the roles were taken very seriously. This can be seen through their costumes, their roles that they played and the plays that were represented. However, when it comes to men playing the roles of females, it was unlike the way in which female portrayed males.
