As soon as I opened this book I knew this is an important watercolor book. The methods he discript here is very traditional, fundermental English watercolor techniques. Please disregard the three one star reviews, they don't know what they were talking about. The book was published by international artist publisher. The same publisher that published the Zbukvic book. I learned this book from a well know watercolor artist Chien Chung Wie who used the demos in this book in his class. For less than $20 you can get a great book from a great artist. Buy it before they are all gone! Practice the demos over, over and again and again!!!

I can tell that the last reader of this book didn't get much out of it. I received it in great condition. This kind of reference book should be used again and again and again. I plan to wear it out. Write in the margins. Fold the corners.Spill things on it.Drag it around.Use it to death. With due respect.

All sheets were good und clean. I will buy second hand again
I like this book. The author has a specific approach to his type of landscape painting ... involving foreign locales usually with architecture and people in the paintings. However, the light/shadow approach easily applies to any subject - even still life or figurative. The demos are clear and easy to follow from one stage to the next in. He shows a lot of stages. I found the text answered questions I had and the sidebars contained useful information. It is true that the artist is working with a particular type of scene, but he holds nothing back in showing you how he does what he does. He has a general palette, but then selects specific colors from it for each painting. It is very interesting to see how the palette affects the mood and color in the painting. And, the entire book makes the point about the importance of light and shadow in creating form.

This isn't a first book for a beginner, because he doesn't go into things like how to do a wash, stretch paper or mix color ... but the artist covers things a beginner will have to think about to become a good painter.
