As a beginner with only several months of lessons, I am very happy, and challenged, by the music in this book. It's nice to have proven music to play--sometimes a book provides what I call (not disparagingly) kid books. Some of these pieces are not too demanding, some are very demanding. Challenge, of course, is fine in any endeavour, and this book provides it. I'm nearing the end and already have the 2d and 3rd books ready to go. Playing the CD when first having the books was quite intimidating. I knew I'd probably never be able to get through the book. Playing it again when nearing completion of the book is encouraging, in that I now know it is possible to accomplish the feat. Not anywhere near proficiently yet, but my morale is considerably boosted.

Our child switched teachers and the new one uses the Suzuki method. The first few pieces seemed too easy but clearly needed for basic skills - pieces soon progressed in difficulty and were a good variation of speed, challenges and style. Listening to the CD over and over is key - kids can auto-correct themselves after a while! Music practice has definitely become easier and more enjoyable.

I have a daughter in book 5, son in book 3, and daughter finishing book 2. If you have a real Suzuki teacher, your kids will amaze you! They are excellent musicians, and my older two are now reading everything they can play. So you don't have to just learn to pay by ear with Suzuki! I wish I had learned this method--maybe I'd still be playing. It's so freeing to be able to hear a piece and be able to play it. If I didn't have music I was stuck. My kids LOVE to play.

My kid's first piano book. She has been learnig piano for 5 months and she almost finishes this entire book. All songs are amazing and she really enjoys playing them. CD helps her to learn new songs and she loves it.

The description clearly said it came with a CD yet when it arrived... NO CD. I could have gotten just the book for half the price but I really wanted the CD. Very disappointed

My daughter and my son just started Suzuki piano lessons this summer. I downloaded the digital music files in addition to buying this because we can listen to the music more often that way rather than carrying around the CD all the time. In the Suzuki method, it is important that the students listen to the music often.
I have been teaching the Suzuki piano method for 9 years. It is by far the best piano method available. However, this is not primarily a method; the Suzuki Method is a philosophy of teaching and learning that says: every child can learn in a positive, enriching environment. The pieces in this book are enjoyable to learn and listen to. It comes with a CD which the student listens to each day.
