The New Voice Pedagogy book. David also considers the effects of different lifestyle factors and situations on the voice, such as singing with a cold or illness, common medications, obesity, hormones, and aging.

This book has helped to not only to refresh my memory, but has also taught me many new things that I bring into the studio. My students and my teaching have changed dramatically thanks to many useful tidbits in this book. Highly recommended to any singers and voice teachers. A pedantic dry as dust regurgitation of the works of outstanding scholars of the voice. Better to check the bibliography and read the real works.

The New Voice Pedagogy Marilee David The simple but vital premise behind this important book is that a healthy voice is a beautiful voice, and a clear tone and pleasant sound will arise from a healthy vocal technique. Based on the concepts of voice therapy, laryngology, and voice science, The New Voice Pedagogy presents a no-nonsense look at the ways knowledge gained through modern science can be applied to teaching voice.

Marilee David in her book The New Voice Pedagogy explains, "The area where the voice must change registers are often called breaks because the untrained voice appears to break into a new type of production. This break is a sudden gap in sound which occurs when the thyroarytenoid muscles suddenly decrease their activity and the cricothyroid muscles begin to function. A skillful transition of this muscular activity is one of the marks of the trained singer.

Tori Texer Can't believe I only paid . 9 for this book! I would have happily paid more. Very informative and detailed- lots of information, case studies and diagrams involving the singing and the mechanics of it. I've been teaching voice in NYC for over 12 years. The more students I see in my studio, the more I want to brush up on the pedagogy and methods I learned years ago. It's for a class. The book basically tells about the human voice and how to use it correctly and also how to teach. It has diagrams from other books in it. Personally, I think its really difficult to read and the terminology could be put in a simpler way.
