"Rodin and Michelangelo: A Study in Artistic Inspiration" by Flavio Fergonzi is a beautiful book that was first sold at the Rodin and Michelangelo Exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1997. I did attend this exhibition but didn't have any cash to buy the book in the Museum Gift Shop after adding so many other goodies based on the exhibit in my shopping basket and having spent so much at the Rodin Museum too.

They had a van, covered with scenes of from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, taking people attending the exhibit from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Rodin Museum and back again.

Wonderful experience that I was able to relive through this book. I've always regretted not putting a few things back on the shelf and buying this book instead. There is a LOT of information I never knew about both artists and their work in this book. I am so happy to have it now.

I loved the book. It was an excellent study of how the work of Michelangelo shaped the work of Rodin. It makes it clear why I am such a fan of both artists.

Excellent condition, arrived on time. Thanks to the sender and thus my high rating. And good value for a small format and if the text suits you. My interest in an art book is for the photos and plates, of which there were too few - not a fun book to curl up with. Which can happen when ordering blindly as I did.

This is a welcome addition to the literature on Rodin, but what really distinguishes this book is the quality of reproductions. Particularly noteworthy are the small Michelangelo studies (drawings and especially a great wax figure and a woodcarved Crucifixion) and the Rodin gouache drawings, and his small plaster maquettes. Lastly you can truly see the patinas on the Rodin bronzes. I highly recommend this-- its production values are high.
