Western Guide to Feng Shui by Terah Kathryn Collins

In westernizing her Feng Shui, Collins dispenses with some of the more bizarre and ungainly traditional practices, always keying in on the straightforward and pragmatic. I'm a beginner with Feng Shui and I found this book to be very helpful and easy to read and understand. The author makes it so simple to get your home and your life organized. It took me about a week and a half to finish the book because I kept stopping to clean out and rearrange certain areas of my house and I'm already seeing the results after only two weeks.

In this comprehensive guide, acclaimed Feng Shui teacher Terah Kathryn Collins explains why the arrangement of your home and workplace affects every aspect of your life, including your relationships, your health, and your finances. This informative book takes you on a step by step journey through your home and office, opening your "Feng Shui eyes" to see the problems and the solutions in your environment. Feng Shui views your home or workplace as a living entity that you are either in harmony with or in discordant partnership with.

She moves Feng Shui from the mystical to the pragmatic, entering the environments of real people seeking real solutions to their economic challenges. Her second book, Home Design with Feng Shui A-Z, is a colorfully illustrated quick reference guide; while her third, The Western Guide to Feng Shui-Room by Room, contains more than 100 photographs on the subject.

Her alphabetized Home Design with Feng Shui, A-Z provides a quick reference to Feng Shui solutions, while The Western Guide to Feng Shui, Room by Room offers more in-depth information and includes over one hundred photographs. With a passion for transformational education, Terah founded the Western School of Feng Shui in 1996. More than 2,000 people from 26 countries have taken her signature course, the Essential Feng Shui® Practitioner Training. This intensive course includes pre-training projects, prerecorded class videos, live interactive coaching calls, and a series of post-training projects to earn a Certificate of Achievement as an Essential Feng Shui® Practitioner.

I recently purchased this book as a gift for a friend of mine who is interested in adding the elements of Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese Art of placement into her home and work space. I have probably read 50+ books on this subject because it fascinates me, but this one is especially appealing because it explains not only what to do to shift the energy in your space room by room, but why you are doing it. It also includes a meditative CD which adds the all important Spiritual energy to each of the practices it suggests. Pay more attention to the sub-title than to the title - "Romance -The dance of heart and home." Both thumbs up for this Feng Shui book.
I've been reading and working with this book for a couple months as I complete furnishing a new apartment. I do subscribe to the theories of chi and how it affects health and well being; this book offers a through starting point for making your surroundings work for and with you. I would recommend to anyone who wants to start working with Feng Shui because it offers everything you need to know without becoming a Feng Shui master yourself.
I've had a paper version of this book for years. It has commonsense recommendations and easily understood explanations. I go back to it from time to time when things get stale to freshen my environment. If you don't believe in Chi you can still love the beauty and peace this practice helps you achieve in your environment.
I have had a hard copy of this book for years and have found it helpful and easy to use in our modern world. I have recently bought the Kindle version so I could have it with me all the time as a reference.
I've always been a little apprehensive about Feng Shui. It seemed so complicated. Way to go, Terah Collins! It was such an EASY read. I finished the whole book quickly. You did an amazing job of getting rid of all the superstitions and streamline the art to an easy, doable task. I ordered the Room by Room one as soon as I finished. It answered all the questions that came up in the first book. Had they been included in that one, it might have been tedious. She left me wanting to know more!
I lost my first copy of this book, so bought a 2nd one to replace it. Of all the books on Feng Shui I've read, this is the most simply laid out for the Westerner. Easy to find exactly what to do with each area of the bagua.
I wanted a book that was quick to read and gave specific ideas of what to do to improve the romantic mood of my bedroom. This small book was perfect! It focuses on the Yin and Yang elements and how to acheive the right balance in your rooms. You don't have to be a Feng Shui believer to benefit from this book as many of the suggestions make logical sense. Not only did it have easy suggestions for the bedroom, it has a chapter on how to bring balance to every room of the home. In just a couple hours of reading I had practical solutions that I could implement. This book is so much better than the hours I wasted on other Feng Shui books that went on about house orientation, etc. and never offered many practical solutions.
I found this book very helpful. It was originally reviewed by a student of mine for a college class which led me to buy Collins' other book "Feng Shui Room by Room". I like the other book even better (I would give it 5 stars). These books bring the concepts into focus for use in a western setting. I transformed two major parts of my house within the first week and it was life changing. In fact I was able to make some powerful changes the first night. Also I didn't spend a lot of money but rather used things I already owned and loved that were either in storage or in the wrong place. I found myself loving my house for the first time in many years instead of constantly thinking about moving.
